Korean Vets Recognized

vetsCongressman Steve Israel and Korean Ambassador Ahn Ho-young held the “Korean War Veterans Meet and Greet” at Albertson VFW Post #5253 on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the United States-Republic of Korea Mutual Defense Treaty. The purpose of the forum was to introduce Ambassador Ahn Ho-young to Korean Veterans from Long Island and celebrate their important role in the community.

Both Congressman Israel and Ambassador Ahn thanked the veterans for their service. The Ambassador then presented each veteran with a citation and medal as a reminder of his country’s gratitude for their service during the Korean War. The Ambassador explained that the medals were all formed from the fencing along the Korean Demilitarized Zone. When the worn fencing was removed, a decision was made to do something significant with it.

The medal contains a message of thanks with a ribbon featuring the Flags of all the countries that assisted the Republic of Korea.

S. Joseph Domina of Manhasset Post 304, who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a recipient of the medal and citation.
