Legendary track and field coach Brooks Johnson once famously said, “It is true that speed kills. In distance running, it kills anyone who does not have it.” This is a problem that the Garden City High School girls cross country team did not have, particularly this past season where members of the Lady Trojans were once again undefeated while racking up awards and accolades both locally and nationally. Credit goes to Coach Charlie Cuzzo who not only nailed down a County Championship but had his gals score high in the State Qualifier meet and even wound up having sophomore Stephanie Gerland qualify to run at the Nike Nationals in Portland, OR, last month. It’s clear that the cross country team has developed the stamina for continued success.
