HS Athlete To Play Abroad

Matthew Sloan, a freshman at Hicksville High School, is one of 17 boys from the Region 1 Olympic Developmental Program (Maine to Virginia) chosen to travel overseas from February 15 through 23, to play soccer against European youth Pro Teams in Turkey.  Sloan was selected for this team as a result of a series of evaluations and tryouts from the NY State Olympic Developmental Program level. The evaluations began in November with his trip to Arizona to play in the National Olympic Developmental Program Tournament and culminated with a regional tryout which was held on January 3 through 5th at Penn State University.  Sloan has been a member of the varsity boys soccer program since seventh grade at Hicksville High School and is a member of the Boys Basketball program and National Honor Society.
