Master Of The Manor
Actor David Houston will perform a free dramatic reading of The Manor at 2 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St. Enjoy a one-hour performance in the style of a radio drama featuring sound effects & backgrounds from 300 years of American music including Joplin, Foster, Copeland, and MacDowell. Hear scenes from Mac Griswold’s absorbing & startling new history of Long Island’s mysterious island. This public program is funded by Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Haute Couture Legal Eagles
On Thursday, March 20, lawyers and court employees will be walking the runway presenting the highly anticipated first look of the 2014 spring fashions, provided by the Garden City Lord & Taylor to help raise funds for local charities. The “Dressed to a Tea” event runs from 5:30-8 p.m. and is the annual fashion show hosted by the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA). It will be held at the NCBA headquarters, on the corner of 15th and West Streets in Mineola. This festive evening’s theme of a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party includes a light supper and fabulous raffle prizes.
Lord & Taylor personal stylist Dana Amoroso and the fashion team led by Lord & Taylor Director Joseph Ricaurte and Karen Loeffler, worked closely with each of the 12 “models” to create the looks showcased. Professional makeup and hair services for the models are provided by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Carolyn DelCielo for Salon Blue. Lord & Taylor discount coupons for its 2014 Charity Sale on April 2 will be provided to all attendees.

Financial grants to local charities are made through the NCBA’s WE CARE Fund. Proceeds from ”Dressed to a Tea” will benefit the Interfaith Nutrition Network, Momma’s House, Education & Assistance Corporation, The Eastern Farm Workers, Bethany House and Long Island Volunteer Center Prom Boutique, a non-profit that also accepts donations of prom dresses, tuxedos and accessories.

Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart
Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. The shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum.
Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State. Clutterers Anonymous
Clutterers Anonymous (CLA), a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support.
