Smoothies, Shakes On The Blvd

smoothiePort Nutrition has been a staple in town for the local health conscious for the past 15 years, but a year and half ago, owner Ravi Madaan moved his business to a newer location which provides better parking, more exposure, and a chance to expand his offerings.

It’s been a mere two months since Port Nutrition added health shakes, juices, and smoothies to its healthful repetoire. The next step is for Ravi to offer a full kitchen of prepared meal alternatives, fresh salads and more.

“The town needs a healthy meal alternative,” said Ravi who hopes to offer this within the year. “It all depends on the licensing and how soon I am able to obtain a town permit.”

Right now, the juice bar is completely organic, with “absolutely no artificial flavors added to the juices, nothing processed, and everything raw and fresh,” according to Ravi.

Check out the selection of smoothies or “healthy meals on the go.” There’s Berry Powerful, Joyful Almond Buttercup, Fountain of Youth, Muscle Mania, Raw and Fit, Super Detox, Heavenly Hawaiian, Green Goddess, Pumpkin Harvest and Source of Life.

There’s also a very reasonable Kids Korner of 12 ounce drinks for $5.99. Kids can select from Choco Love, Funky Monkey, Fruity Smoothie, and Cookies and Cream Monster. They offer Organic Wheat Grass Juice and Add-Ins at 75 cents extra.

Ravi says there is a difference between smoothies and juices. The whole vegetable goes inside the smoothies. like spinach and kale for example. They can be sweetened lightly and naturally; customers are given a choice between almond milk or unsweetened milk, but “whole milk we stay away from for the lactose intolerant customers,” he admits.trans

Ravi considers himself an expert in everything related to nutrition, wheat and gluten. People come to him for questions about vitamins, and supplements and more. “I have people on special regimes to create a healthy lifestyle.” He normally looks into the medical history of his customers first and takes it from there.

Port Nutrition only carries quality name vitamins and healthy snacks. “This is not Costco,” he says. “We don’t have brands from China; all the brands on our shelves are extremely reputable. I believe in only high quality material, nothing cheap.”

The local experts in town are happy to have this offering in town. Local Holistic Health Counselor Sara Siskind has been a customer of Port Nutrition for many years and considers Ravi to be a great community resource for healthcare and supplements.

“I send friends and clients to Port Nutrition for fresh, organic green juices and smoothies,” said Siskind. “Most of their smoothies contain protein, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables depending on what you choose.”

Siskind recommends the juices on an empty stomach as a source of nutrients, while the smoothies can be digested as a meal or snack.

“It’s an easy way for people to get in their daily fruits and vegetables and Port Nutrition makes it convenient,” she said.

The comfortable chairs and tables make it easy to stop and meet some friends for a cup of (well not coffee) kale and other goodies. Ravi is happy to host healthy group meetings too. Siskind has held pep talks and seminars there hosting a group of current and incoming students looking for ways to enrich their lifestyle with healthier choices.
