For every fashion-forward boutique on Plandome Road, there is a talented buyer behind the scene making it their business to keep the town’s fashionistas looking their best.
This season is no different – in fact the warm-weather wardrobe has been long awaited by residents, style conscious or not, who can’t wait another day for the slushy stacks of snow to melt into spring! If you have spring fever, you are definitely not alone. Take a stroll down Plandome Road this weekend and breathe in some fresh air, peak inside the posh boutiques and imagine yourself dressed in lighter clothing again. Feast your eyes on all the dramatic new colors, patterns and styles budding all around town.
From stores catering to contemporary and beachy chic, to weekend casual and upscale elegance – there’s something for everyone this spring.
The selection at the Indi Surf Skate Shop at 486 Plandome Road has styles to rock the beach and pool, whether you want to surf or just lay low on the sand. Owner and buyer Nicole Vorias said bright colors in violet and kelly green are looking hot for spring. “Color blocking is a big trend we’ll be seeing a lot of this spring,” said Vorias.
She added that pattern mixing is really big now and shown in bathing suits with matchy shorts combos. “Mixing textures with patterns is also very popular.” Choose from creative sundresses, rompers, cover-ups, flip flops, hats and more.
Buyer for Gallery Couture, Loop, and Gibson stores, Afshin Haghani is seeing a shift in fashion this season. “Clothes are getting softer, jackets looser and a bit oversized,” said Haghani. He agrees there’s a lot of color blocking, and pretty pastels around now, but what he see is that clothing has become slightly more architectural, not necessarily fitted. “Clothing doesn’t have to fit the body so tight, but rather gently skim the body,” he said. Pants are softer with cool drawstrings. “It’s all about being comfortable and cozy,” he added. “The other trend is architectural, where designers are being inspired by architecture and contemporary art.” Prints are mimicking contemporary art like Monet paintings—very impressionistic. Pastels are also a big trend moving forward.
Afshin and brother David Haghani describe their stores like this. Gallery Couture caters to the more upscale contemporary shopper; Loop next door is geared for more casual, weekend-wear styles; and Gibson for the contemporary, chic dresser at fairer price points. Gibson store manager Alaxandra Rutella knows her merchandise and talked about trends in printed trouser pants to high-waisted crop tops and flowy summery dresses. “At Gibson we carry well-known designers that many of the celebs are wearing: Amanda Uprichard, Veronica M., Clover Canyon, and Torn by Ronny Kobo to name a few. Silk sweatshirts are huge this season,” said Rutella. “They keep you warm during that transitional weather – pair them with shorts on a warmer day or a jacket for cooler temps.”
New handbag boutique Adelina offers a colorful display of handbags—both big and small from clutches to shoulder bags—all 100% leather manufactured handbags come from France and Italy. Adelina carries bold and bright scarves along with beaded costume jewelery to compliment every wardrobe. Manager Liana Stephanian said the spring colors are everywhere: blues, fiery red orange, two-tone whites – even patchwork is a popular pattern this season. “We have new merchandise coming in all the time – so many different choices to welcome spring,” Stephanian said.
