Perhaps it was the luck of the Irish, but for the hundreds celebrating on Main Street in Farmingdale it was St. Patrick’s day yet again.
On March 23, the Village of Farmingdale Downtown Master Plan Implementation Committee turned downtown Farmingdale into a veritable “sea of green” for the second annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.
“Our ‘first ever’ Saint Patrick’s Day parade last year was a huge success,” said Chuck Gosline, co-Chair of the parade committee, “It was estimated that more than 4,500 people lined the streets and participated in the day’s events.”
Gosline and the committee would look to attract even more Long Islanders with this year’s parade.
Leading the march downtown, eight-year-old figure skater Hiram Cowhey walked with members of the American Legion Post 449 while wearing the gold medal he earned in this year’s Empire State Games.
This year’s fesitivites also included two pipe bands, several local businesses, girl and boy Scout troops, fire department engine and ladder companies, and dozens of emerald colored novelty items for kids.
