Water Quality Issues

A presentation on April 23 on Reclaiming our Water: Nitrogen and Resiliency, at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Huntington at 30 Washington Dr., Centerport. Friends of the Bay states that while the vast majority of Nassau County is served by sewers and treatment plants, much of the North Shore remains dependent on cesspools and septic systems. Recent scientific investigation indicates that the nitrogen passing through these systems has adverse impacts on drinking water, groundwater, ponds, streams and bays. Harbor and Beach Cleanup

The Friends of the Bay, Town of Oyster Bay and the North Oyster Bay Baymen Association are looking for volunteers to help in the annual harbor and beach cleanup on April 26. The event is rain or shine, starting at 8 a.m. at Theodore Roosevelt Beach. Call 516-677-5913 for more information. Please bring your own work gloves to the event. The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Spring Splendor on April 28 at 7 p.m. at Dodds & Eder Home at 221 South Street. Tickets are $75 per person lets you enjoy the gardens of Dodds & Eder and tastings from top local restaurants at their fundraiser for the spring flowers and baskets and decorations in town. Yoga at the Library

A new session of yoga starts April 29 and is held on Tuesdays through May 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. Join the owner of Just Be…Yoga Studio, Kim DeSantis, as she brings her practice of yoga to the Bayville Free Library. Bring a mat or towel and yoga blocks or straps if you have them. Beginners welcome. Attendance is limited to 18 people, $20/patron includes 4 classes/session. Registration is required for each session.

Picky Eater Workshop

Come enjoy some food crafts, tips and tricks, samplings and demonstrations at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library. Kids ages 6 and over will participate from 4 to 4:45 p.m. and will go to the Green Room for games while adults participate from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Registration began on April 9 for OB-EN residents and begins on April 29 for non-residents, space permitting. Thai Cooking

Penn Hongthong is returning to demonstrate Thai Cooking at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library at 7 p.m. She will make Lemongrass soup with shrimp, red curry chicken, flat noodles with peanuts and marinated tofu (Pad Thai). Six Saturdays of yoga at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library: May 3, 10, 17, 24, June 7 and 14 (skips May 31). Beginners: 9:20 to 10:20 a.m. Intermediate: 10:30 to11:30 a.m. Fee: $30 due at time of registration.

Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
