In September 2012, Adam Singer’s life changed forever. What was thought to be a simple cyst in his foot turned out to be synovial sarcoma, a rare cancer of the soft tissues. Soon after, a scan showed his cancer had spread to his lungs.
Adam is a 2008 graduate of Jericho High School, where he played varsity baseball. He went on to West Virginia University, where he excelled and ultimately graduated, despite being diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of his senior year.
His dream is to become a lawyer, and he is not allowing his treatment or its side effects to keep him from studying for his LSATs. His mother has been a biology/special education teacher at Jericho High School for 12 years. The family has lived in Jericho for almost 20 years.
Having already endured radiation, chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries, Adam now requires frequent trips to Boston where he is in a clinical trial to attempt to eradicate his cancer. This has, of course, been a hardship and major expense for Adam’s entire family.
A foundation is being established to help ease their burden as well as families like Adam’s, who are dealing with Synovial Sarcoma. A fundraiser will be held on May 1 from 6-10 p.m. at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh. $40 includes open bar and dinner buffet.
