Manhasset High School held it Chamber Recital on Tuesday, April 29 in the Black Box Theatre. As a former ticket holder to Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, the talent portrayed that evening rivaled the best of the arts. Solo performances by Typher Yom and Michael Gabriel were inspiring. Yom’s Rondo de los Lutins depicted the frentic pace of today’s world while Gabriel’s interpretation moved you to emotions much deeper.
A flute quartet of Lillian Huang, Adnia Low, Helen Son and Christin Yoo began the program with the Flight of the Bumble Bee followed by Salut d’Amour with Julien Cheng, Matthew Schaeffer, Meredith Johnson, Tomas Osses playing violin, Jade Blocker and Paraskevi Xenophontos playing viola Steven Meyer and James Mo playing violin.
Tchaikovsky’s II. Andante Cantabile was beautifully performed by a string quartet comprised of Typher Yom, Nicole Kprilov, Kevin Chang and Jessica Kim followed by a solo performance of Daniel Meyer on the bassoon performing a Sonata in G major, Op.168, Movement 1.
The fun of the saxophone quartet played by Thomas Clejan, Kyle Peter, Edward Peterson and Joseph Tripodoro made all present smile in their rendition of Jericho.
Cellists Maxwell Hu, Albert Kim, Steven Meyer, Jessica Kim, Melissa Dorogoff, James Mo, Grace Kim Benjamin Kim and Grace Lee provided the perfect backdrop to the soprano voice of Alexia Mate performing Bachinanas Brasileiras No.5 Aria a snippet of the performance captured here on video.
The evening’s performance culminated in a wonderful percussion ensemble of Celestials performed by Peter Cybriwsky, Melissa Kline, Vedaant Kudia, Jesse Levitin, Gavin Olsen, Carter Paterson, and Harry Petropoulos.
