Northsiders Rock At Annual Talent Show

Northside Elementary School’s dancers, singers, comedians and musicians rocked the stage at Howitt Middle School on April 25 for their twenty-first annual “Party Rock” Talent Show.

The Talent Show is one of the many events provided by the Northside PTA. Chairperson Dina Viskoc, along with her co-chair Melissa Knudzen coordinated an amazing show. 33 talented acts consisting of over 100 students performed and charmed the audience with their remarkable talents.

Parent volunteers including Mary Mascioli assisted the children on stage smoothly and safely, while backstage Northside’s former students Stephanie Viskoc, Melissa Viskoc, Leanna Costello and Nicolette Mascioli came to lend their help as stagehands for the show and during rehearsals.

The Talent Show’s emcee for the evening was principal Elizabeth Garavuso, who kept the show moving with her humorous and admiring narratives. This will be the last talent show for Garavuso as she will be retiring in June. In honor of her retirement some of the teachers at Northside surprised her with an emotional singing performance in her tribute.

Not only did the children entertain us for the evening, the kindergarten teachers also did a skit this year with their reenactment of the children’s book Pete The Cat, I Love My White Shoes. While Garavuso narrated, Northside’s physical education teacher, David Stein rocked out on his electric guitar.

Various Northside student’s acts consisted of Charlie Hilton playing 8 Days a Week on Piano, Zombie Girls Malory DiPiazza, Jeanna Hammelman, Julia Harmon, Rebecca Kenjesky, Kairi Knudsen, Marissa Molina, Olivia Molina, and Gabrielle Stein dancing to Thriller, Jordan Schwartzman playing Medieval Kings on the Violin, an adorable What Does The Fox Say dance performed by Jillian, Ryan, Charlie, Olivia, Kelsey, Keira, Ava, Jaxon, Nicholas, Theresa, Dante, Tristin, Jacqueline, Alyssa and Ava Z. The comedy duo Andrew Siegel and Jordan Welch had the audience hysterical with their “It Tastes Like Chicken” skit. The show’s finale was performed by Danielle Costello, Jessicia Viskoc, Gabrielle Mascioli, Sophia Guthy, Gianna Backich, Jordan Schwartzman, Rebecca Scire, Gina Casale, Sarina Napoli and Ani Smith. These fifth grade girls danced and hugged for their final performance together at the Northside Talent Show singing to Grease’s We Will Always Be Together.
