Budget, Bond Information Rollout

schoolWith the Roslyn School District budget vote less than a month away, Superintendent Dr. Daniel Brenner gave another presentation of the 2014 budget and bond materials at last week’s school board meeting. He explained the ways the district informs the community about the upcoming budget/bond vote.

The district makes use of print media by publishing bi-weekly notices in local papers starting in the month of January. The superintendent also publishes his own personal columns on the budget process, with four columns already published and two more in the works before the Tuesday, May 20 deadline.

A bond handout is distributed to the public at all board presentations and a bond newsletter was mailed to every district address on April 2. A budget newsletter was mailed to the public the first week in May and a budget notice was mailed out on May 9.

The district is informed via electronic media with website information, email notifications and annual information regarding the school budget.

In addition, the school district website, www.roslynschools.org, has a dedicated page for the bond, links to all print and electronic materials and a summary of all Board of Ed discussions. Annual information regarding the school budget includes a Property Tax calculator, line-by-line budget documents and information on Board of Education meeting presentations.

Presentations introduce the bond to the community and provide budget PowerPoint presentations. There were over a dozen scheduled community meetings at the Village of East Hills, Temple Sinai, Bryant Library, Adult Education Advisory and other local venues. The remaining meetings are as follows:

• Thursday, May 8, 9:30 a.m., CCPA District Budget Presentation at East Hills School
• Monday, May 12, 9 a.m., Roslyn Middle School Parent Faculty Association
• Thursday, May 15, 9:30 a.m., East Hills School Parent Faculty Association.

An electronic sign in front of Roslyn High School provides information on the upcoming budget vote and there are sandwich boards located outside of each district school on the day of May 20.
