Become A Volunteer Firefighter—2014 Recruitment Drive

The Garden City Fire Department is continually looking for new volunteer firefighters, as part of a statewide program called Recruit NY.  Like most fire departments, the Garden City Fire Department is always in need of emergency responders, so it can continue to provide the optimum level of protection for its residents.

Volunteer firefighters do important and challenging work for the pure satisfaction of helping others.  They are essential for a number of reasons, including the fact that volunteers live in the communities in which they serve which enhances response times, and they save taxpayers millions of dollars every year. Please visit www.gcfdny.com or contact the Garden City Fire Department via e-mail at membership@gcfdny.com or you can also leave a telephone message at 516-465-4135.

Merchants Clean Up

The village has received quite a few complaints over the past few weeks regarding the amount of wrappers, waste, bottles and cans that are on Seventh Street. I would like to remind the merchants to be more careful in how they place their garbage for pickup. It would also be appreciated if the shoppers would please dispose of their waste in the containers that are located along Seventh Street. There are more than adequate refuse containers for that purpose.

Lawn Maintenance

As a reminder to our residents, lawn maintenance is permitted seven days a week throughout the village. The village code requirement, however, states that no owner of any land within the village shall permit noxious weeds, long grass or other ranks growths on real property. In addition, lawn cutting or any power gardening equipment is only permitted to be done during the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Shop And Dine In Garden City And Enjoy The Experience

I encourage residents to make a conscious effort to choose Garden City as the place to shop and dine. It would be extremely helpful to our business community if you could make one purchase daily in the Village stores. Customer service, selection and quality are outstanding. While shopping or dining let the merchant know that you appreciate them and all that they offer. I look forward to seeing everyone in town.

Board Of Trustees Meeting Schedule

The next meeting of the board of trustees will be on Thursday, May 15 at 8 p.m. The meetings are held in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
