The Town of North Hempstead will be kicking off the summer season with the Memorial Day Commemoration and Fireworks Extravaganza. This year’s festivities will be held on Saturday, May 24 at North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington.

The event honors those who sacrificed their lives in defense of our nation and will feature the United States Marine Corps Color Guard, Nassau County Police Pipe Band, and the Volunteers of America firing detail.

The live beachfront concert will feature performances by The LP’s, playing the music of Paul McCartney and Chicago, as well as Mack and Soul, featuring popular tunes of yesterday and today. The remarkable fireworks show by Bay Fireworks will be the climax of the evening.

“This event is such a wonderful opportunity for us to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day by paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation,” said Supervisor Bosworth.“

The park will open at 3 p.m. and the ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Residents are urged to arrive early. Vehicles entering the park will be charged a $10 parking fee. Once the parking lot reaches maximum capacity, buses will shuttle attendees to North Hempstead Beach Park.
