The Oyster Bay High School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted a record breaking 88 new members in a beautiful candle lit ceremony in the high school performing arts center. The evening was organized by Junior Honor Society faculty advisor Antonia Woodman.
Freshman James Peitz played the processional on the piano and freshman Angela Parry sang a beautiful version of “The Star Spangled Banner.” President Evan Mattel welcomed the audience and introduced the officers in turn to light candles representing the traits embodied by a Junior Honor Society member.
Vice President James Treiber lit the candle for Leadership. Treasurer Emma Ingoglia lit the candle for Citizenship. Secretary Michelle Yu lit the candle for Scholarship. Publicity officer Catherine Kelly lit the candle for Character. Members of Honor Owen McEvoy, Aaron Rudnet and Dennis Mejia lit the candle for Service.
Middle School Principal Taryn Johnson and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld spoke words of inspiration to the new inductees.
