From May 8-10, Island Trees Memorial Middle School’s eighth grade class embarked on an incredible adventure to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.
During the trip, the eighth graders met with politicians, visited historic monuments, explored some of our national museums, and experienced the culture of one of the most important cities in the world.
We are proud that students had such a great time and that these memories will last a lifetime. On the first day, students visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
On May 9, students visited with Rep. Peter King on the steps of the Capitol building. During their visit, the students also were treated to a surprise visit with House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner. After, students visited the Supreme Court building, the Holocaust Museum,
Arlington National Cemetery, President John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy’s Memorials, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Mast of the U.S.S. Maine, Memorial to the Challenger and Columbia, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.
On their last day, students went on a tour of the White House and visited the Smithsonian museums of Air and Space, Natural History, American History and the National Zoological Park.
What an incredible experience this was for all the Island Trees eighth grade students.
