Levittown’s Nepravishta Places Third in Brookhaven Bridge Contest

Division Avenue High School student Joey Nepravishta was the third-place winner in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven Bridge Contest. Approximately 180 students from 13 Nassau and Suffolk county high schools entered the competition in which they designed and built the lightest model bridge that holds a maximum load of 50 kilograms. Joey’s bridge weighed 12.43 grams and held 44.13 pounds, which is 1,610.38 times its weight.

The goal of the contest was to promote the study and application of the principles of physics and engineering. This activity also helps students develop hands-on skills and to see, first-hand, what it is like to be an engineer who designs structures to a set of specifications.

Division Avenue High School Principal Joan Lorelli, science curriculum associate Kevin McDermott and adviser Gerard Marzigliano congratulated Joey on this outstanding accomplishment.
