Roslyn Student Stars In Grease

greaseBuckley Country Day School’s Class of 2014 recently delivered four dynamic performances of the musical classic, Grease. Roslyn student Michael Manu starred in the production as Doody. Buckley Country Day itself is in Roslyn.

The comedy takes place in 1959 and centers around a group of teenagers in their last year as high school students at Rydell High School. Crowd-pleasing scenes came in the form of musical numbers “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightning,” “Since I Don’t Have You,” and “Beauty School Dropout.” This year was the first time the students were given the opportunity to perform four times after all their hard work, offering audiences a chance to see each cast twice.

“I am so proud of the four stellar performances our students gave,” said director and drama teacher Peter Carioscia, director and drama teacher. “I was confident that even as eighth graders, they would be able to embody these characters with maturity, and with each performance they rose to the occasion.”

Carioscia worked with assistant director Stefani Rosenthal, music director Elena Belan and co-choreographers Jenn Demopoulos and Lorna Ventura. In addition, Stephanie Temple operated the lighting board. The show would not have been possible without the vision and hard work of the several parents who assisted with the set design, costumes, and makeup as well as organizing a cast party.
