Members of the Air National Guard 106th Rescue Wing, based in Westhampton Beach, visited students at Robbins Lane Elementary School in Syosset to discuss the importance of Memorial Day on May 23. Students learned about the significance of the holiday, its origins and why it is critical to observe it each year.

Donning uniforms, Master Sgt. Cheran Cambridge, Technical Sgt. Anthony Kirincic, Staff Sgt. Frank Segreto, Senior Airman Assad Pharr and Airman First Class Michael D’Ancona explained their duties to the children with a short presentation video and discussed the meaning of the American flag, including what each part represents and how it should be displayed. D’Ancona and Pharr demonstrated how to properly fold a flag during a flag folding ceremony. Students also had an opportunity to ask several questions and try on National Guard gear.
