Friday Night Promenade Second Season
Enjoy hospitality Garden City style every week this summer as the village’s “Friday Night Promenade” initiative kicks off its second season June 20 on Seventh Street. Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Seventh Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic and parking beginning at 5:45 p.m. New this year will be the talents of balloon twister extraordinaire John Reid and his team, who will be set up in front of TCBY providing free balloon art and face painting for the youngsters. Members of the Garden City Fire Department will also be on hand displaying various apparatus and a lacrosse bounce will be available for any youngsters looking to hone their stick skills. Tables and chairs will be set up in the street for additional seating and outdoor dining and dinner specials will be offered at local eateries along Seventh Street, including popular spots like Walk Street and Leo’s. The promenade runs every Friday night through September.

Garden Tour & Plant Sale
Seven beautiful local gardens will be opened for ticket holders for the Christ Episcopal Church Garden Tour and Plant Sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This popular event, now in its third year, is a go-at-your-own-pace tour and inclujdes maps of the garden locations and light refreshments. The plant sale offers a wide variety of flora and is a wonderful opportunity to find an unusual garden treasure. Julian Sottovia, church warden and noted horticulturalist, has selected the gardens. He is co-owner with David Schumann of Julian and David Associates, Landscape Design Company. Tickets are $17 per person and are available in advance at Christ Church, 33 Jefferson St. in Garden City, three blocks west of New Hyde Park Road. Tickets may be purchased at the church on the day of the tour or reserved by calling 516-775-2626.
Twilight Tour & Refreshments
The community is invited to go down and join members of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary for a drink and a snack. Meet new and old friends and see the new developments at this award-winning community nature center. Short tours of new features will be held. The event is free and no reservations are necessary. The event runs from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Tanners Pond Environmental Center/Garden City Bird Sanctuary, which is opposite 181 Tanners Pond Rd. in Garden City. Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. The shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum.
Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

•Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
•A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State. Clutterers Anonymous
Clutterers Anonymous (CLA), a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month
from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support.
