An 87-year-old Ridge woman was killed when she crashed her vehicle in Rocky Point on Wednesday afternoon.

Suffolk County police said Francine Schenkel was driving a Toyota northbound on Rocky Point Road when she crossed into the southbound lane, drove off the roadway into a tree at 2:45 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was driving alone at the time.

Seventh Squad detectives impounded the vehicle and are continuing the investigation.
