Special Creative Cups
workshop to be held
at Adelphi
A local art studio is offering a workshop at Adelphi University on Thursday, Aug. 21, to help people design their own Creative Cups—turning ordinary bras into works of art—for the Creative Cups Fund Raiser that will be held next March. Artists Denise Collins and Laura Bykowski, owners of The Mermaid Art Studio of Long Beach, will guide participants in the design of their Creative Cups and help them reach their artistic vision. They will also help participants with the registration and submission process. The completed bras are due by Oct. 15.
The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon and is located on the Adelphi campus at Adele and Herbert J. Klapper Center for Fine Art, Ceramics Studio, Room 104, located at the south end of the campus off of Cambridge Avenue. BYOB (bring your own bra-36C underwire, no pushup) and for $15, all other materials are included. Supplies include yarn, beads, buttons, trimmings, fabric, thread, paper, paints (watercolor and acrylic), tissue paper, feathers, crayons, markers, pastels, glue/hot glue, wire, duct tape, stencils, stamps, scrapbook materials and various odds and ends. You may also bring your own material if you have a special theme in mind.
Please note there is a $25 registration fee payable to Adelphi University for participation in Creative Cups. Only the first 200 bras will be accepted. All bras will be professionally photographed and published in a collectible coffee table book and auctioned off at a gala and auction on March 19, 2015. All money raised will be used to offset the costs of running the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.
The fee for the workshops is $15 (to be paid at the door) and pre-registration is required. For more information on this workshop or to register, please call 516-897-3710. To see examples of Creative Cups from previous years, visit http://breast-cancer.adelphi.edu/
