Put The Shhhhh! In Schumer

Thousands of residents of Nassau County have had their lives, health, peace of mind and property values impaired by the FAA’s new flight patterns for Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Airports.
It appears to Quietskies.net and other community activist groups that, based on the attitude of the FAA in dealing with us, that they are acting under political cover provided by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY). We believe that Sen. Schumer’s voting record and consistent support of Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) (whose state is the home of Boeing as well as a primary manufacturer of RNAV equipment) were a primary reason for the Passage of HR 658 which sacrificed our well-being for the welfare of the airline industry. RNAV equipment is a technology that the FAA believes allows aircraft to fly narrow paths that concentrating noise. In addition, the technology allows for closer spacing that supposedly maintains or improves safety. Bottom line, however, is that the senator and the aircraft and airline industries are more concerned about flying more and more aircraft into the New York area than about our quality of life.
Most upsetting is that Schumer is acting alone and contrary to the wishes of other elected federal officials in the metro area. In fact, Schumer was the only elected federal official from the metro area who voted for HR 658. That bill gave the FAA full reign to abuse residents by including what is termed a Categorical Exclusion (CATEX). The CATEX wording in HR 658, as interpreted by the by the FAA, allows the FAA to avoid doing the environmental reviews that have historically been required to evaluate the environmental impact of changes to our airspace and associated procedures.
To add insult to injury, Schumer has refused to meet with the public to discuss these issues, nor has he attended meetings on the aircraft noise and pollution issues.
Quietskies.net therefore requests that Schumer convene a public meeting before Election Day to answer our concerns and to explain what steps will be taken to mitigate the egregious actions of the FAA against our communities.
