Leisure Club Gearing Up For Fall

The summer wind—a constant and welcome companion for the members of the Herricks Leisure Club as they cope with the soaring temps and heightened humidity, will gave way to fall in the coming weeks.

As the sultry days waft into cooling eves, members reminisce about the waning weeks of the club’s spring experience.

The May 22 meeting boasted a patriotic flair in anticipation of Memorial Day.  Stars and stripes decorated the dais as the board congratulated Director Frances Kivatisky on being honored as a Senior Citizen of the Year the previous day. Roses and accolades were presented by Vice President Jo Jozef who chaired this extraordinary Harbor Links event.

A large contingent of members attended an inspiring service at the VFW in commemoration of Memorial Day.  Many dignitaries were present as Tony Catalano conducted the moving ceremonies.

On June 3, Jozef officiated at the meeting and offered data on conservation of water. Kivatisky thanked Mary Carotenuto for procuring our bagel treats.  Members then relished a most delightful musical presentation by Naomi Zeitlin accompanied by her husband Randy.

At the June 12 assembly, emphasis was placed on the observance of Father’s Day as members munched on a tasty pizza repast. Treasurer Jo Arato submitted an extensive financial report and Mrs. Fiorentino expressed her thanks for our remembrances during her recent illness.

On June 19, a moment of silence was pronounced in memory of long-time member, Bob Jannotte. A dual celebration ensued in which President Lillian Ciesluk announced the June anniversaries of the

Bunnell’s, 63 years, and the Rallo’s, 68 years, as well as 14 June birthdays.  She then proclaimed the July anniversaries of four couples including the special recognition of the 60th anniversary of John and Nancy Randall and the birthdays of 20 members.

The club’s guest, Al Polizotto of Syosset Estate Planning, extended information on long-term care and other medical issues.

The grande finale of the club year took place on June 26 at the enchanting Swan Club overlooking a garden of bountiful blooms and the serene waters of the Long Island Sound which put us in the mood to revel in the music of Joe Ratto, succulent dining and joyful camaraderie.

The summer recess has found members immersed in tranquil mountain air and the wave-washed shore as well as the myriad activities on Funday Monday at North Hempstead Beach Park.

Jaunts to the Yonkers Empire Casino occurred on June 14 and July 16 for days of fun and chance.

Members of the Herricks Leisure Club look forward with anticipation to the resumption of club adventures on Sept. 4.
