Edith Gallatin Egan, 64 passed away suddenly at her home in Brielle, N.J. on Monday, Sept. 1.
Mrs. Egan was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., grew up in Manhasset and moved to the New Jersey Shore in 1990. She attended Buckley Country Day School and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned a bachelor of Arts Degree in English.
She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ethel Gallatin, and her niece, Ashley Miller Gravelle.
Edie is survived by her beloved husband, Gerald, and loving daughter, best friend and pride and joy, Almy, of Brielle, N.J.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Scatuorchio of Sea Girt, NJ and her brother, Thomas G. Gallatin, Jr. of Greenvale, N.Y.; her nieces, Emily Snyder and Amanda Manganaro; nephews, Thomas and Patrick Scatuorchio, and great nieces, Elizabeth and Jessica Snyder. She will be dearly missed by all.
Edie’s great love of children led her to a fulfilling career in childhood development and education. Her openness and generosity with everyone, especially children, was endless. Edie was also passionate in her love of animals. She was devoted to, and believed strongly in their welfare. Edie was a great advocate and dedicated contributor to the prevention of animal cruelty.
A family memorial service will be held on Sept. 13 at Christ Episcopal Church, Manhasset.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.org).
