Blakeman and Rice to speak at Chamber Luncheon
On Sept. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its season kick-off luncheon program at the Garden City Hotel, where the keynote speakers will be the Democratic and Republican nominees for the U.S. Congress in New York’s Fourth Congressional District. Bruce A. Blakeman (R), Conservative and Independence nominee and Kathleen Rice (D), Nassau County District Attorney, will speak separately expressing their respective views on the future of the district and impact upon its business community. This is not to be a debate.
Bruce A. Blakeman is the former presiding officer (speaker) of the Nassau County Legislature. He has served as an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Business Law at Hofstra University since September 2002. Blakeman says he is concerned with the fact that college graduates today can’t find a job and many members of working families are being laid off from their work. He believes it is vitally important to fight for the hard-working families and taxpayers of Nassau County. He claims to have won praise for his commitment in protecting seniors and veterans by fixing the Veterans Administration.
As district attorney of Nassau County, Kathleen Rice’s crime-reduction strategies and progressive reforms have helped her prove that law enforcement officials can be both tough and smart on crime. Dubbed by the press as “the state’s toughest DWI prosecutor,” Kathleen Rice’s work to reduce drunk driving is said to have sparked a renewed national debate on local law enforcement’s role on DWI prevention, prosecution, and education. Among the issues Rice has tackled are DWI, drug crime, government corruption, consumer protection, Medicaid fraud, gang activity and Internet sexual predators. Through it all, Rice has been unafraid to take on Nassau’s biggest challenges. Election for the Congressional seat will be held on Nov. 4.
