One of the longest-standing issues in the Garden City, (outside of what to do with St. Paul’s), has been renovation/expansion of the senior center located on Golf Club Lane. The site recently got a major boost when the Engel Berman Group, which is currently spearheading the Doubleday Court Development on Franklin Avenue, wound up donating a model house to the village that had previously been used on the Doubleday property. By adding the 3,800-square foot donation to the 2,400-square foot senior center, residents will get to stretch their collective legs in a space that is going to clock in at 6,200-square feet. In addition, the model house, which is valued at $1.7 million, will have the $175,000 estimated price tag for moving it from where it currently is on Franklin Avenue over to Golf Club Lane picked up by the Engel Berman Group. It winds up being a win-win-win situation for all those involved. Seniors now have more space to recreate in, the village gets an inexpensive (free) ready-made solution for this issue and the Engel Berman Group not only finds a charitable way in which to dispose of something they no longer have a need for, but in the process deepen its connection with Garden City’s residents.
