Board of Education

The next meeting of the Farmingdale School District Board of Education will be held on Sept. 17, at 8 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 18

A Taste of the Town 

On Sept. 18, join St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 145 Prospect St., from 6-9 p.m., for the seventh annual Taste of the Town event. Costs $35 per person and

Car Free Day Rally

To prepare for the observance of Car Free Day—an international event encouraging drivers leave their vehicles home for the day—SUNY Farmingdale State College plans to host an Island-wide rally, on Sept. 18, to promote the use of commuting alternatives such as trains, buses, carpooling, biking and walking. 

 

Organized by a broad-based group of Long Island leaders from major employers, business, civic and environmental groups, universities and municipalities, Car Free Day participants are eligible to win raffle prizes such as commuter bikes, gift cards, theater tickets and more. Women’s Club of Farmingdale

 The next meeting of the Women’s Club of Farmingdale will be held on Sept. 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Village Hall, 361 Main St. in Farmingdale. 

 

PSAT Parent Meeting

On Sept. 18, the Farmingdale School District will hold a meeting, at 6 p.m., for parents with children in 11th grade, about the PSAT exams. 

 

Chamber Board of Directors

The next meeting of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will be held on Sept. 18, at 8:30 a.m., at 100 Broadhollow Rd. Suite 104 in Farmingdale. 

Friday, Sept. 19

An Evening With Psychic Medium Jeffery Wands

On Sept. 19, join psychic medium Jeffery Wands at VFW Post #516, 635 Main St. in Farmingdale, at 7:30 p.m. for this up close and personal gallery style reading and book signing event. Ice Dreams

SpiritLifters at FUMC

On Sept. 20, join the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St., at 7 p.m., when Christian contemporary band, the SpiritLifters, will perform the JC Cafe.

The SpiritLifters use four-part harmonies, guitars, bass and drums to share their faith with audiences at Christian Coffee Houses, Outdoor Fairs, Fundraising Concerts, Church Worship Services and special Nursing Home Concerts. Friends of the Poor Walk-a-Thon

On Sept. 20, join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, at 11 a.m., for the sixth annual Friends of the Poor Walk through Bethpage State Park. Registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m. All of the proceeds raised help benefit people in need.

The next public work session of the Village of Farmingdale Board of Trustees will be held at 7 p.m., on Sept. 22, at Village Hall, 361 Main St. in Farmingdale.

The next meeting of the Farmingdale High School PTA will be held on Sept. 22, at 6 p.m.

Planning Board

The next meeting of the Farmingdale Planning Board will be held at 7 p.m., on Sept. 23, at Village Hall, 361 Main St. in Farmingdale. 

 

David Bowie Documentary

On Sept. 23, come to the Farmingdale Multiplex Cinemas, 1001 Broad Hollow Rd., at 7:30 p.m. for a special screening of the documentary David Bowie is. Unrated, 1 hour and 45 minutes. 

 

The film highlights the groundbreaking exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, U.K., which provides never-before-seen insight into one of the most enigmatic musicians of the last century.
