Women Of Distinction
Trustee Trouvé represented the Village of Garden City at the Second Annual Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony hosted by Assemblyman Edward Ra. I would like to offer congratulations to Lola Nouryan, Ph.D and Joy Romeika, distinguished women from the Village of Garden City who were recognized because these women have contributed so much to our local communities whether it be in business, education, healthcare or civic involvement.
Backflow Tests Mandatory For Lawn Irrigation Systems
I would like to remind everyone that has an automatic lawn sprinkler system, that your backflow prevention assembly unit must be tested annually, as mandated by the Nassau County Health Department.
Notification letters are sent prior to the anniversary of the last test to reach out and alert residents that their device is due to be tested again. The Nassau County Health Department has mandated all devices must be tested annually and has designated the Water Purveyor, (Village of Garden City) responsible for enforcement. The health department considers all untested devices a hazardous threat to the water supply. As such, they have given the authority to the village, to shut off water services to residences that do not conform. In addition, the village risks incurring a fine by the Nassau County Health Department which would be passed on to the residences.
If you have any questions or need a list of certified backflow testers, please do not hesitate to call Ruth Ann Brennan of the Garden City Water Department at 516-465-4160.

Your fire department does an outstanding job to protect our lives and homes. I hope to you see you at the firehouse and hope that you are able to stop by to show your support for them. I’m sure that your entire family will enjoy the program.
Police Department News
Each week in this column I will be including information from Commissioner Jackson of our police department. This week he has asked that I include the following.
Police Enforcement Of Speeding In The Village
With the commencement of the new school year, the police department has extended its Aggressive Driving Campaign to include serious traffic violations on roadways in the vicinity of village schools as well as bus stops and walking routes to schools. From Sept. 4 through Sept. 9, officers assigned to the detail issued 76 tickets for speed in a school zone, 15 tickets were issued for other speeding violations, and 176 tickets issued for miscellaneous moving violations, including cell phone violations, stop sign violations, red light violations, suspended license violations, and suspended registration violations.
Right Turn On Red Signal Law
Please be mindful of the right turn on red signal law. Although drivers making a right on red are supposed to stop before turning, they are also required to yield to oncoming vehicles having the green light. All too often these turns are being made without any stop and further by cutting in front of on-coming vehicles thereby endangering not only themselves but innocent parties as well.
Safety
Everyone is aware that with the coming of fall it gets darker earlier in the evening and stays darker in the early morning. Please, for your own safety, reset your outdoor lights to accommodate these lighting changes.
Board Of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next board of trustees meetings will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, and Thursday, Oct. 16. The meetings will be held in the boardroom at village hall and begin at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
