Football Wins, Losses And Ties For Generals

5- and 6-year-old Peanuts

The Little Generals (Peanuts) stepped out into the cold Sunday morning ready to give the home crowd a show as they battled the Bellmore Braves, and that’s just what they did as the Generals beat the Braves 14-7. The teams battled to a first half tie as the Generals’ touchdown came on a 26-yard run by Kody Gehnrich, thanks to great blocks by John (Jack) Grace and Jack Symanski.

In the second half, where the Generals are usually at their best, the defense shut out the Braves as Rodney Hill, Jr. and Brandon Babel stepped in on the defense line to create a great push to allow Francesco Allocca to make eight tackles. The offense got a big boost with Allocca being allowed to play RB after playing QB the past two games, and boy did he respond behind great lead blocking from Luca Granito. Allocca carried the ball nine times for 60 yards and a TD coming on the last play of the game.

7- and 8-year-old Midgets

The 7- and 8-year-old Generals marched into Franklin Square to meet a very big Warrior’s team. The first half ended with neither team scoring. The Generals started the second half with the ball first and there was no looking back.

The Generals’ offense was led by Jayden Marshall (RB). His running skills provided the Generals with two back-to-back touchdowns for the day. Michael Dilorenzo (RB) was next to score a touchdown for the Generals. Jagger Romano ran for an extra point, which took five Warriors to stop him but not before crossing the goal line. Tyler Granito (RB) worked the middle of the field providing the Generals with several first downs on third and long and fourth and long situations. Tight ends Erick Watts, Astin Polliatos and Liam Gorney did a great job anchoring the ends and allowing the RBs to get outside. All day, a much bigger Franklin Square Warriors were blocked and stopped by the Generals’ offensive line. Good job, Matthew Duras, Owen Parlante, JR Underberg and Declan Trainor.

On the defensive side of the ball the Generals dominated. Once again Jayden Marshall was unstoppable. Marshall had three sacks and was in the backfield all day. The Generals’ defensive line was smaller in size than the Warrior’s but they had no idea how much bigger our D-line’s heart was. Colin O’Toole and Joseph Gotti shut down the middle for the Warriors. Matthew Beggs, Cole Meyer, Jesse Firestone, Anthony Izquierdo and Michael Scores worked the Generals’ defensive secondary like pros. Generals rookies Dylan Romano and James Dolan continue to get better and better.

9- and 10-year-old Ponies

The road to Seaford was a treacherous one as the Generals lost for the first time this season to the Seaford Broncos 31-26 on a last minute 40-yard touchdown pass. The Generals continued pressing their high octane offense, but the Seaford running game off tackle cracked a three-game winning streak. The back and forth contest saw the Generals go down 18-0 in the first half before a spectacular 35-yard Kyle Marshall touchdown shortly before halftime made the score 18-6. Receiving the second half kickoff, the Generals quickly marched down the field fueled by and capped off with a 5-yard Tommy Beggs run through the middle.

On the ensuing possession, the Generals stopped the Broncos on fourth down. Then marched down the field again and scored on another Kyle Marshall run around the left end. Putting the Generals up 19-18. Not to be outdone, the Broncos came out with new life and scored off tackle on a 50-yard run to up 25-19. Yet the Generals did not fold. Driving down the field in eight plays, Tighe Mullarkey scored on a quarterback keeper with less than two minutes to play. The General faithful cheered wildly, silencing the hosting Broncos, while making the score 26-25.

Unfortunately, it was not the Generals’ day. The Broncos, who had not completed a pass the entire day, threw a pass on third and 13 with 50 seconds to play that scored the winning and decisive touchdown.

Despite getting the ball back with 45 seconds to go and all three time outs, the Generals were spent from mounting such a furious comeback. When the clock read all zeroes, it was Seaford 31, The Generals 26. Hats off to the Seaford Broncos for playing a great game.

Seniors

A thrilling game was played as the Massapequa Mustangs and the Oyster Bay-Bayville Generals played to a hard fought 14-14 tie. Massapequa took the first lead of the game as they drove down 50 yards to score. The extra point was good, making the score 8-0. Early in the second quarter, the Generals finally got untracked as Daniel Riso scored on a 35-yard touchdown. Extra point kicked by Aidan Danenza tied the game at 8. Late in the second quarter, the Mustangs scored on a short run and the extra point attempt was blocked by the Generals.

Early in the second half, the Generals’ Daniel Riso scored on a short 7-yard run for his second touchdown of the game, aided by a 45-yard scamper by Aidan Danenza that took the ball down to the 9-yard line. Unfortunately, the extra point was blocked. Both teams battled evenly the rest of the game for a 14-14 tie.

The Generals are now 2-0-1 in their division.

Cheer

A windy Sunday morning didn’t keep the cheerleaders away from cheering on the Pee Wee squad on to a fantastic win. The girls cheered their hearts out, warming up the crowd to get them up on their feet and stomping to the beat. Laura Warner, Leah and Madison Bolitho, and Giuliana Scognamiglio stood front and center to lead the girls on in dynamite action. These girls are looking forward to performing their half-time routine at the next home game.

The senior cheer squad cheered on the 12-year-old boys against Massapequa. The plays kept coming and the cheerleaders were just as intense as these boys were. The girls were on their toes waiting for the play and cheering on each player for yards gained. The girls performed their first half-time show. Their performance was amazing, they are ready to show it off at the next home game.
