The highly successful Roslyn High School soccer season is winding to an end, with both the girls’ and boys’ squads playing winning ball. The Lady Bulldogs went into the final week of the season with a 4-1-2 record. On Oct. 15, they lost an away game to Wheatley High School, 3-0, but bounced back two days later to top Great Neck South, 2-0.
In the win over Great Neck, Talia Berman made six saves in the goal for Roslyn. On offense, Celia Falzarano continued to pace the Roslyn attack with both a goal and an assist. She was assisted by Marni Cohen, who had a goal and Sophie Michaels who scored the other assist in the shutout home victory.
Meanwhile, the boys’ squad also had a split week, defeating Hewlett, 2-0 before losing an away game to Glen Cove, also by a 2-0 score. In the Hewlett win, Ethan Rousso was the defensive star, scoring two saves on his way to the shutout win. Offense was provided by Andrew Markman who had a goal and an assist and Zach Moskowitz who booted home the other goal.
The loss to Glen Cove prevented Roslyn from having an undefeated season, but their 8-1 record puts them in a tie with Lawrence for first place on top of Conference A-2 play. Next for both teams are the playoffs. It has not yet been determined who the Roslyn squads will play in the first round of playoff action, but the games are set to start the week of Oct. 27.
