Farmingdale village officials will be holding a public hearing on Dec. 1, to reexamine school speed zones throughout the village, in order to establish a consistent school speed zone limit.
According to Deputy Mayor Pat Christiansen, three school speed zones have different limits—ranging from 15 to 25 mph. She explained that in order for the village to establish a constant 20 mph school zone speed limit, the board will need to amend village code.
At the next meeting, the board will open the floor to public comment to get residents opinion’s of what is appropriate in a school zone.
According to Farmingdale Board of Education president Shari Bardash-Eivers, while it is up to the village to enforce the school speed limits, the Board of Education would like what is best and safest for students in the district.
“The bottom line is everyone needs to slow down around our schools,” Bardash-Eivers said.
