Turkey Trot: Once Again A Glorious Success
The 37th Annual Merrill Lynch Turkey Trot held on Thanksgiving morning was a spectacular success. On behalf of the board of trustees and the residents I want to thank everyone who was involved in making this event the success that it was and keeping it a special tradition of Garden City. I am sure that this year’s donations will exceed the money that was raised last year to the research and aid program for the benefit of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association and the INN.
I also want to thank the combined efforts of Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson and his officers as well as the Special Police for keeping everyone safe for this event as well as Director of Cultural and Recreation Kevin Ocker and his staff for setting up and cleaning up in such an efficient manner.
Please mark your calendars for the following events:

Police Department News
Each week in this column I will be including information from Commissioner Jackson of our police department. This week he has asked that I include the following.
All residents are advised to turn off their lawn sprinkler systems during freezing temperatures. During the recent period of very cold weather, it was reported that there were several sidewalks frozen over due to operating sprinkler systems causing dangerous slippery conditions for pedestrians. As the mayor mentioned above, residents are reminded that per the village code, all sprinkler systems must be turned off by Nov. 30.
With the holidays approaching, all motorists are urged to drive safely, particularly, in shopping district parking fields where there will be increased pedestrian traffic. Shoppers are often distracted this time of year leaving them vulnerable to vehicular traffic.
Board Of Trustees Meetings
The next regularly scheduled board of trustees meetings that will be held are on Dec. 4 and Dec. 18. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.
