The Death Of Inisfada – One Year Later

InisfadaOne year ago today Dec. 5, 2013, the destruction of Inisfada broke the hearts of thousands of people who walked its halls.  The 87 room Tudor Elizabethan estate of the late Nicholas and Genevive Brady was built on 33 acres.

The property was originally listed for sale for $49 million dollars and eventually sold at a deep at discount for near $36 million. According to the real estate listing the property is listed as R3 which is residential and would pay as much as $3,160,797 in real estate taxes (as of 2012). Under its current use as a retreat,  it was exempt from taxes.

The Brady estate was never marked as a landmark building eventhough a great many dignitaries and the pope came to visit there.  Sadly, it was demolished by the Hong Kong developer who will now construct 51 homes on the property.

The original estate was approximately 71,834 square feet of gorgeous embellishments, wood and marble.  Built in the 1920’s, the estate had a reflection pool on the side of the estate.  The three story edifice was most recently used as a retreat house called St. Ignatius.  Unfortunately, the Jesuits were unable to maintain the cost of upkeep and sought alternative solutions which finally culminated in the property being sold.
