Residents looking for a new social activity or outlet for keeping in shape during the winter months are invited to take part in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Winter 2015 Open Court Volleyball Program. The program is open to town residents and non-residents 18 and older, and will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center.
Prior to the Open Court Volleyball Program starting in January, the Hicksville Athletic Center will be holding free introduction classes for the Open-Court Volleyball Program. Through Saturday, Dec. 20, free trial sessions will be offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Registration is not required for the free introductory classes. Those interested in trying the program for free are encouraged to bring a friend.
The Winter 2015 volleyball program begins on Saturday, Jan. 3 and will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. The volleyball program will be conducted on Mondays from 9 to 10:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The program is 12 weeks in duration and is $75 for residents and $100 for non-residents. Proof of residency is required.
“Volleyball is a well-established form of aerobic exercise that promotes multiple health benefits, and increases general longevity,” said Councilman Anthony Macagnone. “The town’s Open Court Volleyball Program at the Hicksville Athletic Center offers an enjoyable, indoor location for residents to exercise during the cold winter months. It’s also a great opportunity to make new friends.”
Registration for the Volleyball program beginning Jan. 3 will take place at the Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 Broadway in Hicksville, on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is not required for the free trial classes in November and December. Please note that the schedule may be subject to change and residents are encouraged to inquire about special holiday scheduling.
