December at Garden City’s Christ Church

Just before the Christmas rush, parishioners at Christ Episcopal Church buy specific gifts for families living in poverty in the New York area. For example, a church family with young children might buy a warm coat for a needy 10-year-old boy. The program, Adopt-A-Family, is under the auspices of Episcopal Ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island.

Giving to those in need is important. Praying for peace in a a world full of disaster is too. Christ Church invites all to become part of its Prayers for Peace, a bimontlyly laity-led service. The next meeting is on Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. People of all denominations are invited.

Lunch Bunch is a sociable bi-monthly program attended by a number of retirees and open to all There is a Christmas buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. If you live in Stewart Manor or nearby, listen for carolers from Christ Church the Sunday before Christmas.

Children are an important part of Christ Church and Sunday School kids present their annual Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m.

Santa Claus is coming again and although he cannot make it for breakfast this year, he will be visiting children at Garden Manor Nursery School in time to hear wish lists.

The most important event is of course the Christmas Eve Holy Eucharist at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Caroling is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. just prior to the service. Regular Sunday services are at 10 a.m.
