The doors of the King Kullen store located in the Soundview Marketplace in Port Washington closed as of December 31, 2014.  It was the second store of the chain that had closed in the past two months.

The Mineola King Kullen at 52 Jericho Turnpike also had closed it’s door late this fall. The Port Washington King Kullen store was originally opened in the early 1960’s.  Due to the lack of grocery stores on the pennisula and in Manhasset, it expanded the store over a decade ago in 2003.  Stop and Shop opened it doors in a brand new center a half mile down the strip in March 2004 and a new King Kullen store opened in the Manhasset Center.  The lease was up as of December 31, 2014 on the Port store and the chain had decided not to renew the lease.

The King Kullen website states the supermarket chain includes over 45 stores, almost all located within Long Island. King Kullen uses the tagline, America’s First Supermarket, as recognized by the Smithsonian Institution. The private grocery store company first opened on August 4, 1930, begun by a former Kroger employee. King Kullen became a pioneer in the supermarket industry by offering larger stores, a much bigger inventory of products, and lower prices than the competition. – See more at: http://www.hours-locations.com/king-kullen/ny/mineola/#sthash.LS3iGcYY.dpuf
