Temple Judea’s sanctuary was alive with music on Sunday, Dec. 7 when its fourth Cantorial Concert was held. Temple Judea’s own Cantor, Abbe Sher, was joined on the Bimah by four talented cantors. They included Cantor Kathy Barr of Temple Beth Shalom of Flushing, Cantor Leslie Friedlander from Temple
Isaiah of Great Neck, Cantor Barbra Lieberstein, who has a private practice as a tutor and celebrant for children and adult bar/bat mitzvahs and performs life cycle events, and Cantor Meredith Stone, who is cantor of Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester.
The five “divas” began the evening with a beautiful rendition of “Shiru L’ Adonai.” The cantors performed individually and together singing a wide range of songs. The audience enjoyed laughing, clapping and singing along with many familiar tunes. The concert ended with everyone joining the cantors singing “Hatikvah.” Afterwards, the guests socialized and enjoyed a dessert buffet.
This year’s concert honored women who have had a significant impact on Temple Judea, the lives of its congregants, and the community at large. Members and businesses recognized their accomplishments by placing ads in the concert journal.
The success of this event was due to the support from the Board of Trustees, its congregants, and the community who attended. Temple Judea is a Reform Temple located at 333 Searingtown Road in Manhasset.
