First Nassau County OTB witnesses the opening of the Meadowbrook Pointe community, the two Avalon rental communities, the newly opened Westbury Gallery shops and the now under construction, soon to be opened, Lifetime Fitness luxury gym, all elevating the neighborhood formerly occupised by the Roosevelt Racetrack, all of which are, or will be paying taxes to Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead.
OTB then negotiates in secret to open a casino in this very community, in one of the most traveled and congested areas of Nassau County. Does OTB believe that the additional projected revenue justifies opening a casino in such close proximity to the new, upcoming residential and commercial location? Is the projected revenue more important than the negative impact to the hardworking homeowners of Westbury and Carle Place? OTB should be ashamed of itself for putting the revenue needs of the county and its own organization ahead of the welfare of these residential communities.
