Letter: Say No To LNG Pipeline

The Port Ambrose project for a Liquefied Natural Gas Pipeline is to be located 18.5 miles south of Long Beach and Jones Beach. I believe this project is a disaster waiting to happen. Liquefied Natural Gas is essentially methane, the same deadly methane escaping from fracked gas wells in the U.S.  It is a worse heat trapping gas than CO2 and lasts much longer in the atmosphere.

So what’s the problem with this deal?  Is it that pipelines are subject to leaks and in the ocean fret with storms, more than a leak will occur? Is it that wind power is being overlooked? The location of that proposed pipeline is where sustainable, environmentally safe wind turbines could be built.

So what’s the deal? The deal is that the Deepwater people have deep pockets and those in government are ignoring the public outcry against this pipeline. The right decision would be to kill the Port Ambrose Pipeline and start investing in wind turbines. This would be a good deal for lasting job creation on Long Island, do no harm to the environment and communities nearby. It’s time to say good-bye and no to this proposal.
