On Sunday, Jan. 31, it was standing room only at the Our Lady of Victory Family Mass, as OLV School families and parishioners celebrated the beginning of the national celebration of Catholics Schools Week.
This year’s theme was Dividends for Life. The Reverend Walter Kedjierski and the Reverend Bruno Dekrem concelebrated the opening Mass. Father Walter gave a heartwarming homily during which he stressed the important role OLV School plays in our entire parish community and society at large. Following Mass, Our Lady of Victory’s Principal of more than 10 years, Mrs. Peg Augello, presented on the importance of Catholic Schools during which she honored those who support it most here in our community: Our Lady of Victory School’s students, teachers and staff, parents, parish priests and the entire OLV parish family. Mrs. Augello stressed how the values incorporated into a faith-based curriculum, such as the ones offered at OLV School, continue to make “OLV – the place to be.”
Also present were Floral Park Mayor Kevin Greene and Bellerose Village Mayor Donna Sherrer, who presented to Our Lady of Victory School with Proclamations officially acknowledging the week of January 31 to February 5 as Catholic Schools Week in our villages. Floral Park-Bellerose Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Lynn Pombanyo, was also an honored guest. Following the Mass, a spirited Open House of the school took place, with several hundred people in attendance.
