Weather forced the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC to postpone their seventh Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Gospel Brunch but they are now determined to celebrate Black History Month and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy with a program of great music, good food and wonderful raffle prizes. Come on Saturday, Feb. 28. from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock at 48 Shelter Rock Rd. in Manhasset. Proceeds from this event will be used to support the year-round educational and recreational programs operated for children and youth at the Hagedorn Community Center on High Street in Manhasset.
The Community Center is home to a full year Head Start program, the Adventures in Learning after school homework assistance and enrichment program (a separate not-for-profit organization), a six-week full day summer program for approximately 90 youngsters ages five to 13 and a Career Guidance and Counseling Program for “at risk” youth ages 14 to 21. Additional information about the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC and the Black History Celebration can be found on the agency’s website at mgneoc.com.
In the tradition of previous events celebrating Dr. King, entertainment will be provided by a variety of local choirs, soloists, musicians, and dancers including the Children’s Choir, Praise Team and Royal Priesthood from First Baptist Church of Great Neck and the interfaith choir of Temple Beth-El also of Great Neck.
Tax deductible tickets for the Black History celebration are $50 for adults and $25 for youths under 18 years of age. Since the Social Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation has been filled every year, advance purchase is advised.
