High School Students, Staff Give Blood

Recent weather situations have created a blood shortage in New York. The students and staff at the Oyster Bay High School responded by donating blood during an all day blood drive on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Oyster Bay High School nurse Patricia Jaronczyk said, “A lot of credit goes to the students who volunteered. They selflessly helped out. I am very proud of them.”

Teachers and students donated blood and many students wanted to donate, but were turned away because they didn’t meet the weight requirement.

OBHS senior Kelsey Doyle said, “It is easy to donate blood knowing that you are doing a good deed.”

One lucky volunteer will be selected to win a scholarship at the end of the school year based on volunteering, donating and helping to get the word out. One pint of blood can save three lives.

Thanks to everyone who donated and for everyone else, there will be another chance to help when the New York Blood Center returns in May for another drive.
