Village Board Budget Session

All residents are welcomed and encouraged to attend the final work session the board of trustees will be conducting its to review the proposed 2015-16 village budget. This session will be at 7:30 p.m. and is being held in the boardroom at village hall located at 351 Stewart Avenue in Garden City. The Museum Of Extraordinary Things

Actors David Houston and Diana Heinlein will perform a one-hour dramatic reading from The Museum of Extraordinary Things at 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Scenes from Alice Hoffman’s spellbinding novel will be presented as “radio drama” with sound effects and music of early 20th Century New York. This public program is funded by Friends of the Library. Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting your Garden CPL card at the program room door. Nonresidents will be accommodated on a space available basis 10 minutes before showtime. Marvelous Movie Matinée

A screening of the 1990 spy thriller The Russia House starring Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Village Election

The annual village election will be held from noon until 9 p.m. at village hall, 351 Stewart Ave. Registered village residents will be voting for the following candidates: Nicholas P. Episcopia – Mayor – 2-year term; John A. DeMaro – Trustee – 2-year term; Richard A. Silver – Trustee – 2-year term; Stephen S. Makrinos – Trustee – 2-year term. Since the incorporation of the village in 1919, members of the board of trustees in Garden City have been elected by a non-partisan vote of residents in accordance with the policies of the Community Agreement.

Female Artists Masterpieces

Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor a free 1-hour illustrated lecture “Masterpieces by Women Artists” with Nassau County Museum of Art docent Evelyn Silver on Wednesday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St. This program will highlight masterpieces of paintings and sculpture created by 30 women artists from 1060 AD to the present. View art by Mary Cassatt, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe plus other equally accomplished artists represented in major international museums such as Coster, Bonheur, & Valadon. Evelyn Silver is an adjunct professor emerita from Queens College. She has extensive experience writing and presenting lectures for University Without Walls, public libraries, community centers and private groups. Priority will be given to Garden City residents by presenting your Garden City Public Library card at the program room door. Widowed Social Group Meeting

Your Widowed Social Group is a nonsectarian, nonprofit organization of widows and widowers 50 years plus of age. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month. There is a nominal fee for members and nonmembers. Meetings are held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church located at Franklin Avenue and Fifth Street in Garden City. Piano Teachers Meeting

From 10 a.m. to noon, the Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island will be hosting guest speaker Dr. Hadassah Guttmann, who’ll be giving the presentation, “Butchered Pieces—Rescued!” All piano teachers are welcome. Defensive Driving Courses

Six-hour course were conducted by AAA in the Garden City office located at 229 7th St. After March 1, courses will now be held in Homewood Suites by Hilton located at 40 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place.
