The Garden City Chamber of Commerce will be honoring four individuals at its 2015 Pineapple Ball on Friday evening, May 8, at the Garden City Hotel. The Pineapple Ball gala is will run from 7 p.m. to midnight and is highly regarded as Garden City’s premier business and social event. Guests will celebrate the honorees while enjoying a substantial repast and dance to the music of the renowned Ales Donor Orchestra.
Vinny Muldoon
Muldoon is the owner of Old World Quality Corporation and has been named Citizen of the Year. Established in 1970, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding service which has contributed to the high standards, quality of life and well-being of the Garden City community. Muldoon is well known for his pro bono repairs on the St. Paul’s clock tower and for the assistance which he and his Old World Quality team have provided to community members in need of his specialized services. He feels that what means the most to him over the last 20 years in addition to his great customer base is the honor to meet so many great people with whom he has built lifetime friendships.
Robert L. Cunningham
The chairman of the Village Zoning Board of Appeals has served on this village commission for 30 years and is highly regarded by his fellow board members. Cunningham has been chosen as the recipient of the coveted Community Achievement Award. This equally prestigious award commemorates outstanding professionalism and major contributions to the Village of Garden City. Bob Cunningham’s extensive community involvements have included service as president of the Central Property Owners Association and the Help Us Help job program in conjunction with the Garden City Community Church. He is also a 15-year member of St. Joseph Church Community Blood Drive/Bank and has served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross.
Patrick Longo
The owner of Sunflower Fine Art Gallery, Mirror and Picture Framing has been selected by the Chamber Search Committee as 2015 Business Person of the Year. This award represents significant contributions to the local economy and to the objectives and aims of the Chamber. Patrick Longo chose to operate his eclectic art gallery on Garden City’s upscale, prestigious and convenient Seventh Street address in order to best serve his loyal clients and local artists. One of Longo’s major community services has been his longtime chairmanship of the annual Belmont Festival Poster Contest involving students from the entire Garden City School District. His passion: to share and to put on display for all, the joy and benefits of life with the arts.
Dr. Robert A. Scott
The president of Adelphi University will receive the Chamber’s President’s Award for his unprecedented leadership at Adelphi and his outreach to the Garden City community. Under Dr. Scott’s leadership, Adelphi’s undergraduate enrollment has grown nearly 65 percent with new academic programs added. He has demonstrated commitment to Garden City schools and other top Long Island districts. In 2001, he established the Adelphi Prize for Leaderships, an annual award for juniors from Garden City (in any public or private school) who are recognized for exemplary academic achievement and community service. With the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, the university has held joint cultural activities brining residents to the Adelphi University: Performing Arts Center (AUPAC). He is the only person to hold the three top positions in American higher education: head of a public institution, state coordinating board (NJ) and private university
