Meet Dan Chuzmir, community relations department head for the Port Washington Public Library since August 2014. He began working at the library in 2010, and he’s also a librarian. His main roles are community relations, publicity, promotion, marketing, printed material, signage, graphic design, the newsletter and social media.
Chuzmir grew up in Port Washington and attended the Port Washington public schools. Chuzmir moved back to Port Washington in 2012. “Port is unique. Despite the proximity to the city, it never seems like just a suburb; it seems like a real town,” said Chuzmir. “There’s culture, an active downtown, the water, and a close-knit community feel.”
Several interesting events that are coming up at the library are the first Earth Day Fair on April 22. “Librarian Denise Anchico has organized an amazing line-up of activities for all ages,” said Chuzmir. “Another unique event is Civil War 150, from April 24 to 26. We’re commemorating the anniversary of the end of the Civil War with performances, lectures and children’s events.”
The library offers many services that residents may not know about. One of those services,
Lynda.com, is an online training library that companies use to train employees. “We have one of the first library subscriptions. It’s completely 
free for patrons. Lynda.com provides thousands of training courses on so many subjects. You can learn anything from management skills to photography to how to use your new iPhone,” said Chuzmir.
Chuzmir has helped introduce preloaded e-readers, expanded tech assistance and the mobile website at the PWPL. “We are currently working on lending Roku streaming sticks,” said Chuzmir. “I enjoy being able to help introduce new services and promote them and to expand people’s idea of what the library does.”
