On Sunday, March 1, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Sacred Heart #370 held their annual scholarship tea in the Silveri Center at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church. This year’s event was in honor of Kathleen Aylward, the founding member of the tea.
Ticket sales, donations and monies from the raffle are raised in order to award a scholarship to a deserving senior student from the Oyster Bay and St. Dominic High Schools.
Guests who braved the snow were greeted with a lemon cranberry scone and a spring-theme venue beautifully decorated with tea sets belonging to the members. A variety of homemade sandwiches and desserts were served by students of both schools who volunteer their time as a community service, while the magic happened in the kitchen with water and tea.
This year’s servers were: Christina Testa, Robert Morris, Dana Galgano, Braeden Warshaw, Julia Testa, Kevin Velasquez, Haley Warshaw and Sean Cronin.
Raffle prizes and gift cards were donated by more than 40 merchants who have generously been supporting this event over the years.
The 2015 court officers are: Paul Thibault, regent; Laura Dejeau, vice regent; Bette Murphy, treasurer; Lorraine McNamara, recording secretary; Mary Mazzo, financial secretary.
Chairladies for this year’s tea were Paula Bracken and Mickey Hawxhurst, assisted by co-chairs Joan Hathaway and Michele Gee. Catholic Daughters is also hosting a Lenten Soup Supper on Wednesday, April 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the social room, followed by the St. Dominic Tenebrae Service in the church. Good will offerings will be accepted for the Parish Outreach Program.
