The Over the Hill Gang softball league recently held its annual Awards Night to honor last year’s champions and to set the stage for the upcoming season.
This year the event took on special significance because the league is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Legislators Rose Walker, Joe Muscarella, Tony Macagnone and Michael Venditto were on hand to celebrate the incredible milestone and to honor Jim Reilly, the league’s founder and President. Reilly received several proclamations and a crystal plaque recognizing his enormous contributions to the league.
Two Over the Hill Gang pioneers, Ron Fox and John Falbo, were also honored and inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame. All teams were recognized for their participation in the 2014 season, especially Singleton’s, winner of the Reilly Cup as the tournament champion. The highlight of the evening came when everyone watched a news report profiling former player and current manager Tom Ball. T-Ball is determined to walk again after a work accident five years ago and his participation in a recent clinical trial shows that he is well on his way to fulfilling that goal. His determination and progress is inspirational.
Although this is the Over the Hill Gang softball league don’t be misled by its moniker. The level of play is strong, highly competitive and games are spirited. Hopefully this matches your expectations.
