Born Sept. 6, 1923, in South Ozone Park, Queens. Passed away peacefully on April 16, 2015 in Manhasset. He was 91 years old.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Mary, of 66 years, children Russell, Lynn, Brian (Rachel), George, and Greg, and grandchildren Matthew, Kelly, Ryan, Emily, Owen, Jeffrey and Kate. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, after which he worked at Webster Tobacco in New York City while pursuing a degree in accounting at Pace University. Thereafter, he enjoyed a successful career as a sales executive at John Hancock Insurance Company. His most cherished moments were spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and large extended family at the Matthews’ summer home on Asharoken Beach in Northport, LI.
He was loved by all.
