Village Election Is Contested

villageWEBWhile there are no contests in the coming June 16 elections in Kings Point or Lake Success, the elections for mayor and two trustees in the Village of Great Neck are contested.

The Great Neck Record invites all candidates to send a headshot (in jpg form) and a Word attachment with their statements (300 to 350 words) to the Great Neck Record (wkreitzman@antonmediagroup.com). Included should be: a biography, information containing the candidate’s experience, why the candidate is running for office and what is considered a priority. No criticisms of other officials will be accepted at this time.

Some villages, and some candidates, do comply. In the weeks to come, we will publish all such election materials.

The Record will accept such candidate information for publication for contested elections until Wednesday, May 27, at noon.

Information from candidates in uncontested elections will be accepted until Wednesday, June 3, at 5 p.m.

The six other Great Neck villages (Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston) all hold elections in June.

Village of Great Neck

Village of Great Neck mayor and trustee elections are all contested. Better Government Party incumbent candidates are Ralph Kreitzman for mayor and, for trustees, incumbents Jeffrey Bass and Mitchell Beckerman. Contesting these elections are Village Voice candidates Pedram Bral for mayor and for trustee spots, Anne Mendelson and Raymond Plakstis Jr. At first Christine Campbell was nominated by the Village Voice party for trustee, but on Thursday, May 14, Campbell declined and Plakstis was immediately nominated and accepted. In addition, Samuel J. Yellis is running for a trustee position on the Bridge Party ticket.

Elections are Tuesday, June 16, noon to 9 p.m., at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave. in Great Neck.
